6-30-2014 This is the last day of GAETI. I am going to miss the people that I have gotten to know over this month. I have learned so many ideas that I know that I will use in my classroom. I pray everyone have a great school year and rest of the remaining summer break. I know we learned many great things that we will use in the upcoming school year.

06-27-2014 I enjoyed the presentations today. I know that I will be able to use some of the resources from them in my classroom as well. I gave a skeleton overview of my presentation on the civil rights participants in Mississippi. All of my resources are on my weebly website. It includes my lesson plan as well as my full Power Points, my Qr's for my jigsaw classroom activity,and my formal evaluation in a quiz. I have learned a great deal from this workshop.

06-26-2014 I am working on my lesson plan for tomorrow. I presented my art project. I am pleased with it. I did the scales of justice. The glass pieces that I put on the scales made the scales stand out to help also to identify it. I have so many different websites and other technology that I can do for my lesson plan. We went to T.K.Martin Center. I was very impress with the different technology that the center has to help adults and students. I am learning so much.

06-25-2014 My art project is complete. My lesson plan is still being worked on. I feel overwhelm because I feel that time is going fast and I have not had enough time to work on it. We learned about copy right copy wrong. Mrs. Cannady gave us many examples of what we thought was wrong or right in the case studies. Many of us determined that we have at some point and time copied wrong. I also learned how to put my voice to Powerpoint and up load it to Youtube. I also learned how to put my voice to a picture and embed it on Audioboo. I am learning so many different websites that I can use for the classroom. I just have to sit and think of how I want to get my lesson plan implemented.

6-24-2014 We did canvas in Allen's computer lab. We set up a class. This is a great tool but I do not know if I will be able to implement this in my classroom. My art project is coming along. I fused together glass which was fun for me. I learn something new in Show and Tell called ClassFlow it is something like Canvas. I also learned new ways to do Powerpoint but I am set on trying to do prezie. I realized that my technology skills are limited when using technology. I realized that my students are great at doing technology because they are always on technology whether it is a smartphone, ipad, tablet, or gaming device. I realize that I am only only on technology when I have to do something. I do not play around with technology that is probably why my skills are limited. My lesson plan is coming along as well. I do not have time at home to do it and when we are at the workshop we do not have extra time to work on it. I hope to implement some of the new ideas that I learn in it.

06-23-2014 The visit to the the library was very informative about how to use prezi and how to use ipads in the classroom. I do not have an ipad, but from the Mrs. Agnew library's presentation as well as Dr.Lee's presentation there is so much you can do with it that can be useful in the classroom. I am going to use the prezi as part of my induction to my students. There is a template where you can up load your information. I also learn valuable information from the Mrs. Agnew's library presentation that I can upload the powerpoints that I have into a prezi which is so helpful. My school has a cart where they have a classroom set of ipads but they are booked up where I did not get a chance to use them last school year. There is so much technology that teachers can use in the classroom to engage students' learning. I am learning so much.

06-20-2014 I enjoyed the many websites that I learned about today. I know that I will use the my story with the canvas and the livebinders. I also enjoyed looking at the gardenquest. I have used gardenquest in my classroom before. I am just excited about using the new ideas and resources that I have acquired at this workshop. I also enjoyed show and tell. When I was able to share my knowledge of what I used in the classroom and provided helpful ideas for my peers with keepvid for saving youtube videos to your desktop or usb drive. I am learning so much.

06-19-2014 I am enjoying the art because I am using my hands and the process is peaceful. During Mr. Segalini's presentation,I learned about how you can use pictures as instruments that students can site evidence to cite their argument. I also learned how you can have students fold the picture and see how things are overlook when you look at the big picture. Mr. Segalini's presentation was overall informative because he gave the insight of the Mississippi Department of Education's take on the Common Core. Many teachers are afraid of the Common Core because they feel that it is something additional that they will have to teach. I look at it as a way to help students form their own thinking and them being able to tell you how they arrived at an answer or thought by backing it up with evidence. During Dr. Lee's presentation on the use of Canvas and the Bookmarking Tools using Scoop It. I know I will use it because it will hold all the websites that I think are important and I have learned many websites that I know I will be using in the classroom.

6-18-2014 I learned about the different grants and many websites that teachers can apply for free money for their ideas and projects for their classroom. I also am thinking about the lesson plan that I am writing. I am thinking about it on a level of implementing the new ideas from the workshop which makes it more wider in your thinking because of the workshop. I am thinking about how I can implement what I have learned. I also enjoyed the video chat with the Dr. from Taiwan. I also enjoyed the guest speakers Dr. Green and Ms. Bennett because they provide many resources that we can use in the classroom. I am enjoying many different ideas and resources that I know I will use in my classroom.

06-17-2014 I learned a great deal today. I thought about my school policy and which one that I would like to change. My group did the technology in the classroom. My school is not consistent with the technology policy one minute you can let students have phones for instructional purposes and the next minute administration do not want students to have them present at all. I feel that when you are not consistent students get confused as well as the adults. I believe that when you make a policy you should think about all the pros and cons before you implement that policy. We also had to think about what would we present to our school upon the return of the new school year. I believe that I will have a lot to present, but I will break it down in newsletters so teacher can go back an refer to the new information. I also learn that technology or time will not do what you want it to do with the fail video chat. That is why I believe that you must have a plan A and B and sometimes C and D.

06-16-2014 I learned a great deal today. I learned about the 22 digital skills learning that 21st century teachers should know. I learned about using prezi which I will probably implement when giving lectures and use the qr codes and video in them. This will work well for the two new courses that I will have. The two courses that I have already taught. I learned that I can not put those powerpoints in prezi which is very sad, but over time I will rework the powerpoint to prezi so I can put the new technology such as qr codes and video to have a more engaging lecture. It is so much technology to use in the classroom the only problem that I see is that I do not a computers in my classroom and the library computer labs are usually booked up by the English teachers, to use the technology such as Google docs and some of the other new technology that I have learned during this workshop. I am feeling a little more confident on implementing new technology in the classroom. The twitter is very new to me but I do have a facebook account so it is very similar. I know that I will get the hang of doing it also. I am learning so much that I know will be helpful in the classroom.

6-13-2014 I learned about 21st Century Skills such as soft skill like listening, and interaction with others. Many of us agreed that these skills should already be mastered before they get to us. The hard skills are the skills that we are able to teach to our students such as technical, academic and physical skills. These skills are specifically content, task, or job related. The whole group agreed that students with have soft skills are teachable of the hard skills. I also enjoyed Mr. Fomby's presentation about Youth Highway Safety with driving because I teach students in that age bracket and I my child has his driving license. I also enjoyed the art even though I am waiting to see how my project comes out. I am enjoying the workshop.

6-12-2014 I enjoyed yesterday because I learned about service learning and the important questions in economics with Dr. Becky Smith. I learned there is a difference from community service and service learning. Service Learning you are learning about the service that you perform and you reflect on the different ways to improve and make it better instead of just doing a project/service in your community. I enjoyed the sype conference. I have never been in a meeting where the person can talk to you/group at a different location. I also learned from the presentation dealing with financial literary that I probably can implement some aspects in the new classes that I am going to teach in the Fall. The workshop is giving me a vast scope of ideas that I can bring to my classroom through the different guest experts in their fields.

06-11-2014 I learned how to create board games using Excel that will be helpful in bring the concepts that we learn to students in a fun way. I also learned different things that I can do with my SmartBoard such as interactive lessons. I have a SmartBoard for one year in my classroom. I want to utilize it so my students have fun using it as well as for Powerpoints. I also learned about the different websites that I can use for games as well as great ideas for the new subjects that I will be teaching in the fall. There are many different resources for teachers. This workshop is helping me build a portfolio of the websites and resources that I can use to make my classroom engaging and fun.

06-10-2014 The two things that I found helpful today is the jigsaw classroom that I can use in my classroom where students get in groups to learn concepts. The second thing that I learned was the team based learning where I have used in the past but I now have a better understanding of the concept. The literacy strategy that I learned today that I will use in my classroom in the historical chunking material. My group made a visual aid poster where we talked about how you can scaffold material for your students. My group decide that historical chunking the materials through chronological chunking, presidential, decades, eras, and events were ways students could scaffold the concepts/material that we want them to learn. We also said that materials could be scaffold by the cause and effect method and showing students how the material that they are learning affects them. I am learning many new things in this workshop as well as learning how to improve on things that I already use.

06-09-2014 I had a great time learning things that I can use in my classroom. I learned how to create a website which is free. I also realized that using art in the classroom can be fun and students can also learn from doing this. The resources that I am acquiring for my classroom are very valuable along with the knowledge to use it which is very important for a person that is not technology savvy. The presentations were very informative for me with planning lesson plans. The group activity also was very valuable because you get to talk to other teachers that can provide valuable experiences that teach the same thing that you teach. I am anxiety to see what we will be learning tomorrow. I am learning so much. The day also went by very fast.

06-6-2014 I learned a great deal this week. The activity that I know I will use will be the reading with primary sources and making poems out of the most important aspect of the primary source. I also enjoyed the guest speaker. His topic was about the civil rights movement. I learned great websites that I can use in the classroom.

06-5-2014 I had fun using the GPS with the Geocaching Scavenger Hunt. This could be something that I can use in my classroom. I also can use the Google Earth with my students to bring the places to life for them through virtual tour.

I can use the spatial data or maps in my geography class when using latitude and longitude. This can provide a hands on experience for my students. I can have my student look up specific places on the spatial maps. I can also ask them about where in the world would they want to go and look up the latitude and longitude of this place. I can also use this for quizzes and tests also. I can also use the activity in my classroom where Dr Morris use the different colors of paper to have us make a globe.  I also enjoyed our guest speaker Mr. Spears. He was very insightful on Common Core. He dispelled  many rumors for me.

Day One

I learned many new things today that I can take back to the classroom such as the use of Magnolia for research with my students using journals as well as primary documents and I am also introduced to the new idea of gmail and blogging. This is my first time blogging. I know that I will use this tool after the GAETI is over for both personal as well as in the classroom.
